Kristen Viera (she/her) is a second-year graduate student studying ecology through the Environment, Ecology, and Energy program (E3P). Her undergraduate studies were in environmental sustainability and Spanish with secondary studies in graphic design and writing. She is particularly interested in community-based work in environmental justice, food sovereignty, sustainable urban landscape design, and natural hazard resiliency. Her current research looks at North Carolina-based conservation and protection-focused organizations’ framing of and investment in environmental justice. She is also a member of the Socio-Ecological Change Research Lab at UNC where she is involved in projects focused on various human-environment interactions including food systems resilience and community suburban flooding. In her free time, she enjoys going on walks, playing the guitar, and cooking/baking.
