Headshot of EJ Clinic student James Collins

James P. Collins (he/him) is an environmental social scientist and geographer studying how communities respond to emerging natural hazards. He is in the early stages of investigating natural hazard exposure and experiences of migrant and seasonal farmworkers in North Carolina. As a second-year Ph.D. student in the Department of City and Regional Planning, James is training as a community-engaged mixed methods researcher. He earned bachelor’s degrees in environmental science and government from the University of Texas at Austin and worked in municipal public service before coming to UNC. Raised in central Texas, tacos, two-stepping, and oak-juniper canyonlands give him life.d
